Not Pointless

The SDC results were announced yesterday, and I managed a point with one of the judges for one of my designs! Not the best of results, but then again it wasn’t the worst of results.

I was a little sad for CITYscape, which failed to score with the judges, and I felt that was my best chance. I think the problem was that a part of the design failed on the live preview, which was extremely annoying, but that’s life I guess. And the point is, I’ve learnt from the competition, and I’ve corrected that mistake, and released Chocolate Vanilla for Sandbox, so onwards and upwards!

But for now, I’m taking a break… my right wrist is beginning to click again. :(

The Fens

I am back after a week in a place far away, where there is no Internet (yes, that’s right, my grandparents’ house). I came back to a miserly three pieces of post and about fifty emails. Once sifted (which didn’t leave much), I started to set about my usual business. So I was pretty bored for much of the day.

I did however manage to listen to all of Dream Theater’s Systematic Chaos. It improves with every listen, so I’m pleased with it.

And in the meantime while I was away in that parallel universe – the extremely localised heat-wave-cum-sauna – that is my grandparents’ brand-spanking new bungalow, the SDC has been hotting up.

I’ve had a look at "the competition" ;) . And I don’t stand a chance! However, I’ve been pleased with the responses so far, and I’m thinking about working further on some of my themes. But we shall see! :)

Dogs And Mad Englishmen

I was thinking last night how you can measure the richness of a country’s history by the number of and by the degree by which its people are eccentric. Britain has no shortage of mad people: we are famous the world over for talking incessantly about the weather. And having produced the likes of Boris Johnson, Rowan Atkinson and my grandparents, that is the argument pretty much won.

This week, I shall be visiting another part of this country. This is my dad’s old stomping ground – Boston, Lincolnshire. I shall be staying there this week with my (maternal) grandparents. So I won’t be blogging any more until I’m back. Sorry!

Meanwhile, submissions for the SDC have now been closed. I’m hardly going to set the world alight with my three designs (apparently that’s not cheating…!), it was a good lesson for me to try to envisage and implement my own design to an existing theme… three times.

As for releasing my designs, I don’t know. Perhaps it’s best to see how well received they are before contemplating unleashing my monstrosities to the world. I guess I’m saying "If you like it, tell me", then I’ll do something about it. They will appear on the Designs page on 2nd August, I believe.

Chocolate Vanilla

I guess it had to happen. I have been off for little more than a week and I make a new design for my website. It uses the Sandbox template, using a customised theme. They are currently running a competition to design a theme based on their template, and this is my attempt. I’m considering entering, but I doubt I will win!

Now, another promotion that is currently running is the collaboration between Coca-Cola and iTunes. Having bought (in bulk) some Coca-Cola, I obtained three free tracks from iTunes. Those being:

The Clash
Rock The Casbah
Frank Valli & The Seasons
December, 1963 (Oh What A Night!)
10cc
Dreadlock Holiday

Think I did well there!
