assignments

A Pain In The Neck

On Tuesday I had a lecture. One of the students came in with a throat infection having just been prescribed antibiotics. To be honest, I can’t blame her. I only have two exams too, but it’s still going to be incredibly difficult. The only problem is that she sat next to me, and now I have a sore throat…

I haven’t helped myself to be honest. When alone, I sing a lot. The sole reason if nothing else is that by singing alone I don’t have to sing in front of other people. It is mostly for their benefit… Furthermore, I left two assignments over the Christmas holidays (having forgotten one completely, which was for Monday) until tonight, and will be due tomorrow. I’ve done one… sort of. I’ve left half of it — I don’t think that I could have done any better with it if I had done it earlier to be honest… it’s hard!

Anyway, I’m having a quick break watching QI on Dave before doing the other one. Hopefully it’ll be easier…

Lesson of the Day

By all means leave things to the last minute. Don’t expect it to be any easier, however.

Bayes Of Dismay

ARGH! I’m still trying to make headway with my Bayesian Statistics project. I’m slowly getting there. The problem is that I get one task finished then discover a mistake from a couple of tasks before. The result is that I have to do every task after that again. If you have taken a look at the project, then I am on "Task 2". I haven’t got very far. And it’s in for Thursday. It’s a little bit of a worry, but I’ll get there in the end. That is even if I end up doing a 24 hour stretch on Wednesday getting it finished. I have other assignments too.

I have rather wasted this weekend. I received my photos of Japan on Friday and I have uploaded them to Flickr. I also created a video on YouTube (though I am informed the photos and music aren’t quite synchronised – use your imagination!). I wish Bank Holiday weekend was this weekend!

This And That… And This

Football… we lost. But gallantly so. We played well, but Chelsea just managed that winner. So I’m not too disheartened. It seems young Paul Huntington had a decent enough debut – perhaps away to the Premiership champions isn’t the ideal debut, but needs must.

Cricket… Monty Panesar became the first Englishman to get a five-wicket haul at Waca today. Duncan Fletcher didn’t seem too pleased… Steve Harmison has also just picked up his fourth wicket of the day and Australia are all out, which is also good news.

Now, my news. I have finished all my assignments and my project, with a couple of days to spare. So I intend on enjoying the last two days of this semester! I’m not quite sure how, but it will probably involve some sort of food.

I have also written a new song on The Songs Of Geoff Brady.

Back To Back To Back

I think I might be back to hating Tuesdays again! Yesterday was a very long day. In effect I was at Uni from 10am til 9pm. Officially I was there 10am-1pm in lectures, then 4-5pm in a tutorial. However I was working between those times and after, until I had the Stop AIDS meeting at 7.30pm, and I was there until about 8.30pm, and my bus was at 9pm. So a pretty long day.

I still haven’t managed to finish my Cryptography homework and the deadline is today. I should get it finished, but if other people have their way, perhaps I won’t! I am a man in demand…

Back To Business

Firstly, an apology. I have been really rather busy doing… nothing in particular. Building websites, helping people, and doing rather little that is useful to me – not least assignments for Uni. But I’m starting to get back to normal.

I’ve written a new song on geoffbrady.wordpress.com – this is less for me, and more for my stepbrother, who actually wants to put my lyrics forward to the band. And it seems his bassist is just as keen. I’m quite excited. But I’m not holding my breath. Quite often bands have the music in their heads before embarking on lyrics. But we shall see.

I’m considering upgrading my computer. However, if I am to upgrade to a dual core processor, likely spend is about £150. I’m not whether that is worth it. I would be getting a much faster computer, but anger and frustration is free! I could wait to see whether prices go down, but is that worth it either? Damn money…!

Round, Spherical Objects

The title comes from Hi de Hi. Don’t know why I used it, just thought it funny at the time. But anyway – what you have all been waiting for: my daily news.

It doesn’t disappoint. I handed in my assignment for Number Theory and Cryptography – uncompleted. Everyone found it difficult, but we shall see how I do. It’s my bad really, I didn’t go to the tutorial. But to be fair, I did study the tutorial questions, and they would not have helped me.

I have also found a band to play my songs! Incredible. It’s my stepbrother’s band (don’t know who they’re called…), but if they like the songs, you never know! I could have a number one! (Yes, ok, I doubt it, but you never know!)I also went out tonight to celebrate Rosie’s 22nd birthday (Happy Birthday Rosie!). It was good! I had two Rosie-vodka-and-cokes (i.e. Rosie’s generous measures) and two JD-and-cokes (i.e. Mood’s measures, which actually seemed rather generous – although I was too busy watching the football to notice how much was actually put in). Anyway, got home safely, called Deano a gnome, so I think I better go to bed!

Wet, Cold, But Smiling

I managed to get two assignments done today. This put me in a good mood, but I can imagine an assignment in for Friday will force my hair to recede.

So we headed for St. James’ Park for the Carling Cup game against Portsmouth. I’ll cut to the chase because I’m tired – it pissed it down. What was worse was that it was very windy and thus very chilly. It rained constantly throughout.

In our wisdom, we thought we would try to buy tickets right at the front of the Milburn Stand so that we could see everything at near ground level – to the point where you could recognise players by their faces. But this also meant that we would not be under the cover of any roof should it rain. This was something we didn’t consider at the time.

In all, Mum and I sat in the rain on a cold plastic seat for two hours. We were sodden, my jeans were three times the weight they started, and only the waistband of my boxer shorts escaped a soaking (sorry for the detail). But a warm towel, my favourite hoody, fresh clothes and Chinese chicken curry and chips sorted me out.

Oh The Luck

Well guys and dolls, I, for one, shall be glad once Friday the Thirteenth has passed (until the next time). The day did not go brilliantly for me, really. But nonetheless, it wasn’t a particularly bad one.

Having discovered that the Internet submission of my homework had passed (on 1st January 1970), I emailed my lecturer. Thankfully he was understanding enough to extend the deadline until Monday! So that’s all sorted. I had an hour between my last lecture and a tutorial, so I went and got a Burger King meal in order to get filled up for giving blood. Having done that, I had some change for the Big Issue bloke outside Milligan’s, and so I bought his wares, which he kept neatly in a plastic envelope.

I went back to Merz Court to eat my meal. I finished and went up to the tutorial. After that finished, I dashed for the bus. As I got to the bus station, I realised that I didn’t remember ever putting my Big Issue into my bag. As it transpired, it seems I left it in the common room as I was eating my meal. Very annoying, as I didn’t even read the front cover, let alone the inside of it. So it is probably in a bin as we speak.

Anyway, I went to give blood, and it was all going well. I passed the iron test. I was given my bronze award for donating 10 times – I got a certificate and a pin badge. So I went to give blood.

I have, save for two times, donating with my left arm every time I have donated. I prefer to use my left arm because, obviously, I use it less than my right (no dirty jokes please! :P ). However, the veins are apparently much deeper in my right arm. This seemed only to be a problem the first few times I used my right arm, but I haven’t had any bother with it more recently, so I elected to do the same again and donate with the left arm. This was probably the fatal mistake.

The poor nurse tried to get the bastard needle in, but apparently it burst one of my capillaries, and the needle eventually rested at one of the valves in my vein. So not only was the blood flow extremely slow (usually I’m a right little bleeder) but my arm was filling with blood too, and as such I would have a massive bruise. So after about 10 minutes of the maximum 15 or so of her trying to support the needle to get the best contact, the nurse decided that it was best to halt the donation. I managed a paltry 150ml (actually it was less than that…) of the 470ml maximum. That is less than half a can of pop (southerners, read Dr Pepper). So that was a shame.

It’s affected my typing too… my left arm wants to type the letter to the left of what I want it to type. One last word: I have added a page to the blog, with the songs currently in my Special “favourites” list in Windows Media Player. See what you think!

Isn’t It

Weird day, as they often are. Not every day you get an email from your dad saying how proud he is of you. And for sending a birthday card to your stepbrother. The term “blows hot and cold” springs to mind.

But anyway, only one more day of this course to go, then I shall probably have to do this assignment for the end of August, seeing as no job has yet been found for me. Thing is, I want to try something that is relevant to what I want to do as a career after I graduate, but this appears to be a bit of a stumbling block – despite widening my preferences from the outset. Oh well, I said I wanted work over the summer…

And Australia didn’t fail me (despite their best efforts!).

Club 2K

I followed my own advice I posted this morning. I looked out of the window of the bus, and I noticed something I hadn’t before. I saw some wild rabbits lazily soaking the morning rays just off one of the junctions from the A1. I hadn’t noticed them there before.

There isn’t much else to report. I am relieved that there are no more assignments to be done this academic year. Thank goodness!

There is a chance I might be paying Sittingbourne a visit, which has perked me up no end! I hope it happens, but whether it happens is pretty circumstancial, things have to fall into place.

Anyway, I’m off now: I’m watching the opening ceremony of the European Cup Final – it’s crap, but it’s part of the sad old tradition…
