It’s Christmas Eve. Newcastle United yesterday impressively beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-1. All is well in the world of GeoffBrady. But I’m angry.
On the way home from that match yesterday, I looked on a poster on the bus. It said “no services on New Year’s Day”. Not good. I get home and look on the trains. Not a single train will pass through on New Year’s Day. Disaster.
Why? Because that means I cannot go to see Newcastle United v Manchester United on New Year’s Day. So… no-one is working on New Year’s Day… except 32 footballers, several coaches, a set of officials, the Police, several hundred stewards and catering staff at St. James’ Park. Meanwhile, some fat-cats at Premier League HQ will be sitting somewhere watching it all either on Sky Sports or just by waltzing into one of the grounds by car.
It’s just not a fans’ game any more.
